Debashis Dey

My Interest are varied - from Photography, Video, Television and Media, Philosophy, Poetry ( or playing with words) , Psychology, Human Mind, Emotions, Old Manuscripts and Antiques, Mythology, Paintings and some more.

I was born and brought up in Calcutta in India - studied Gita at the age of eight from my Grandpa, nearly all of Tagore by twelve = though I like his philosophy more than the poems - but they can be found only in his poems, I love the powerful mind of Einstein and the last but most important Philosopher has been Issac Asimov - though he was clever enough to camouflage his philosophy in the disguise of science fiction.

I studied in South Point in Calcutta for the schooling phase with many a good friends like Abhijit Ray, ( son of Dr Ashok Roy and Suktara Roy), Gautam Chatterjee of Salimpur who joined us from St. Lawrence in Std XI, Shampa Mukherjee of Grahams Land, Tollygunge, Arundhati Roy of Dover Lane, Peu Bose, Ruma Basu of Jatin Bagchi Road, Indrani Bnnerjee, Madhuchanda Khasnobis, Kalidas Dutta - a good artist but now a Govt officer in Child Labour and enjoying the spoils of such a service, Anish, Partha, Subhashis Dutta the drummer - now a doctor, Soumitra Guha - a bright student in MBBS - but fell prey to drugs, Sandip Das - the tall fellow, Soumen - the TT player, Anish ( heard he is Tajikistan or somewhere similar, Bappaditya and many more. I remember all of them. Recently I met one of my very old colleague Dipanjan (Roy) in Delhi - the amazing fact was ne recognized me after a span of 27 years ! Dipanjan stays in Jodhpur Park and is in touch with a few of our friends. My teachers were Anjan Dasgupta, Ashutosh Mukherjee ( Known popularly as Ashubabu), Shyamadas Mukherjee ( used to call me bete debashis to differentiate with another friend with the same name) , Indrajit Guha ( Who was also the Principal) and many others but these are the names I still recall and still carry a lively image in my mind.

During college I was completely in favor of a revolution and joined the college politics to establish supremacy in all college unions and also succeeded. After which I was forced to leave Calcutta for some time and then plunged into work for a earning .

Spent 20 years in Media & Television managing Satellite TV Channels like Sony, AXN, CNBC, Star Movies, Star News, Star World, Channel V, B4U etc. which were mostly launched by me and my team in India. Most of the time I was engaged in Marketing but also in Programming Concepts and Packaging plus the Technical part of it.

All through my life I continued reading not for the sake of knowledge but for understanding the Human Mind - and how it creates the various miseries we live through.

My other love - poetry can be found here (very recently I was advised to remove them due to piracy issue) While this site will be only my photography mostly except some occasional blabbering.

Currently I am consulting for New Media, mobile content, internet, IP TV etc.
